Sania Mirza`s rank improves after french Open
Her maiden singles win at the French Open has seen Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza rise seven places to 42 in the latest WTA rankings released today. Sania, who was 50th last week, has 546 points. The 20-year-old has, however, slid in the doubles chart, dropping four places to 41st.
The Indian ace will next be seen in action at this week’s $200,000 DFS Classic in Birmingham, where she will take on Maria Elena Camerin of Italy in the first round.
The Hyderabadi player beat Italin Andria Brianti to record her maiden win at the claycourt Grand Slam before crashing out with a straight set loss to seventh seed Ana Ivanovic of Serbia, the losing finallist.
In the ATP charts, Leander Paes second-round loss at the French Open has pushed him down by four places to 10th this week. However, Mahesh Bhupathi improved his standing by six rungs to 20th following his semi-final appearance at Roland Garros. Paes and his Czech partner Martin Damm were seeded third in the event but were dumped out by an unseeded German duo. Bhupathi, meanwhile, had teamed up with Czech Radek Stepnak for the tournament and the duo made it to the last-four stage.
